1. What is a domain
and why do I need one?
A domain name is your unique internet address. Most
internet sites register with the InterNIC which issues domains under the .com
(commercial), .org (non profit), .net (network
infrastructure), .gov (US federal government), .tv (television),
and .info (information) are top level domains. There are also top
level domains for every country, such as .ca (Canada), .us
(United States), and .uk (United Kingdom).
Domain names tend to be memorable so that people can find and return to
your site. For example, if your organization was Widgets, Inc you would
probably choose widgets.com.

7. What information does CNG
Internet need for a Domain transfer
1) Registrant: the name of the
organization or individual that owns the domain (as well as address, phone number,
e-mail). Under certain circumstances could you "park" the
domain with us, but we would advise against it.
2) Domain Name: the domain name (i.e.
cnginternet.com) [the 'www' part of the URL is just a common Internet
standard]
3) Administrative Contact: someone at your
organization that can answer non-technical questions; such as what is the
domain being used for, etc. We at CNG Internet could be your
administration contact; but in most cases it should be you.
4) Technical Contact: When CNG Internet registers your domain, CNG will be named the technical contact. This allows
CNG Internet to manage all Technical Issues for you
5) Billing Contact: a person that
handles billing issues. Domains registered by CNG Internet have CNG
Internet as the billing contact. CNG Internet will notify you when the
domain registration approaches its time for renewal. Upon receipt of renewal payment, CNG Internet will renew your domain for you.

8. My e-mail address is not
correct for the administrative contact. Now what?
First, try to contact the listed technical contact
(e-mail) for your domain. This e-mail address must belong to someone who
can authorize the transfer for you. If that fails, send us a fax ((732)
842-2144 Attn: Domain Transfer). The fax must be on company letterhead
with the following text:
As an authorized representative for [name of
your organization], the owner of [name of the domain], I authorize the
transfer of [name of the domain] to CNG Internet's servers.
The reason for the transfer is [state the reason]
Once the transfer is completed, CNG Internet can make any other contact changes you require.

register your domain in any of the 192
countries that have unique "Top-Level" internet
registration authority. Some country-code registrations are rather
lengthy, and include strict rules on "local presence", as well
as tax
and trademark
guidelines. For

When you are ready, contact CNG Internet, and we will process your

14. Can I have a domain like
"newyork.mydomain.com"?
Yes, these
are "pointer" domain. If the link ("newyork") points
to the same web-site as the standard "www.mydomain.com"

point to a different domain you will need to establish a new domain
account with CNG Internet.
(and

15. What about trademarks when I
register a domain?
Internic (and all other domain registrars) are taking
a hands-off approach. It is up to the courts to decide what infringes on a
trademark. Courts have even sided with holders of trademarks when the
"domain" just sounds like the defending trademark. Just do your
research, and stay clear of "similar" names, even if you are in
an entirely different "industry". You do not want to lose your
domain after you have promoted it. (Aside from court-costs that you will
pay if you can't defend the domain name).
